ORLANDO, Fla. -- Those involved remained tight-lipped Thursday regarding the announcement that Casey Anthony is the first -- and so far only -- person to be called a suspect in her daughter Caylee’s disappearance.
She is the only one who can lead investigators to the truth about what happened to Caylee, who has been missing for 79 days, an agency spokesman said.
Until now, investigators did not call Casey Anthony a suspect, usually calling her a "person of interest."
But Capt. Angelo Nieves of the sheriff’s office said Casey Anthony is a suspect because of the evidence the agency has received from the FBI indicating there was a high probability that Caylee’s body was in her mother's trunk.
He also said she has repeatedly lied to investigators.
"Well, she was the last person to person to see her daughter, and we are continuing to follow up on this information, and granted she would be a suspect," Nieves said.
Casey Anthony is out on bond on a variety of charges, from child neglect to check fraud.
She initially told investigators her daughter was last with a baby sitter.
Investigators also pointed out that they have not given up on the search for Caylee.
Attorney Jose Baez, Casey Anthony’s attorney, said it doesn’t make a difference whether investigators call her a "person of interest" or a "suspect." He declined a request for a further interview.
The attorney for George and Cindy Anthony said he had not talked to them to get their reaction to their daughter being named a suspect.
Anthony visited Baez on Thursday, while her ex-fiance, Jesse Grund, sat down with Matt Lauer on the "Today" show.
Lauer asked Grund if his former fiancee, Casey Anthony, is capable of hurting Caylee.
"The Casey I knew, no. But no one knows the real Casey," Grund said.
Grund also called on Anthony to stop destroying people's lives.
"We're all done with it we're all done with hearing your lies and your stories that don't make sense over and over again. Tell the truth about what happened," he said.
A pre-trial hearing is slated for Nov. 5. The trial is set for Nov. 17.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- New evidence was revealed on Tuesday as hundreds of pages of documents related to the search for Caylee Anthony was released by prosecutors.
The documents included statements from witnesses regarding what the Anthonys said about a horrendous smell in Casey Anthony's car.
They also indicated that Cindy Anthony, Caylee's grandmother, didn't want to open the trunk because she was afraid of what she would find.
More than 500 pages of documents were released, including transcripts of interviews with family and friends, cell phone and text records.
Investigators said friends and family heard several explanations from Casey Anthony about the horrid smell in her car.
Records indicated she told her brother, Lee Anthony, that "two dead squirrels crawled up under the hood of the car ... and they died in there."
Amy Huizenga, Casey Anthony's friend, said she was first told "she's pretty sure she ran something over on the 408."
On June 25, which was nine days after Caylee was last seen, Casey Anthony told Huizenga, "I think maybe my dad ran something over with my car when he borrowed it, and it smells like something died in my car."
Huizenga said she also recalled Anthony leaving her a message that said, "There's definitely a part of an animal plastered to the frame of my car." She also said Anthony said she had "gotten rid of it."
But when George and Cindy Anthony went to pick up the car from the impound lot after it had sat there for two weeks, Cindy Anthony confided in Huizenga because she hadn't talked to her granddaughter or daughter for one month that "they were afraid that it was either Caylee or Casey stuffed in the trunk."
For those who smelled the car, Cindy Anthony said it smelled like something died ... without even opening the trunk.
Lee Anthony described the smell as "atrocious ... it hit you like a wave."
He first smelled the car airing out in the family garage on July 15, which was the night Cindy Anthony first called 911 to report Caylee missing.
He told investigators he confronted his sister and told her officers would demand she lead them to Caylee.
A detective said "you just gave her a slap of reality." Lee Anthony said, "Exactly."
Lee Anthony said his sister began to break down and cry, saying, "Lee, do you want to know the truth? I haven't seen my daughter in 31 days."
After Casey Anthony's arrest, her mother explained the smell in the car as a rotting pizza with maggots. Investigators said they uncovered traces of human decomposition, chloroform and Caylee's DNA in the trunk.
A representative for Jose Baez, Casey Anthony's attorney, said the prosecution doesn't have a smoking gun or she would be behind bars and not sitting at home.

Caylee Anthony On DR PHIL :
Caylee Anthony's face has been splashed across magazine covers and TV screens since July 2008, and her mom, Casey, has been named a person of interest in the case.
Many fear that the worst has happened to the missing 3-year-old.
Dr. Phil examines the psychological aspects of a story that continues to grip America's imagination with its bizarre twists and turns.
Three-year-old Caylee Anthony made headlines when her grandmother, Cindy, placed a frantic 911 call to report her missing. By the time she called the police, her granddaughter had been missing for one month.
Where was Caylee’s mother, Casey, all that time?
Latest News 19 Sept 2008
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The state attorney's office formalized the three most-recent economic charges against Casey Anthony, mother of missing toddler Caylee Anthony, on Friday.
The charges stem from allegations that Anthony stole her friend's checks and made several hundred dollars worth of purchases.
Anthony is not expected to be rearrested on these charges because she already turned herself in on the charges on Monday and bonded out of jail on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Guardian Angels were on patrol outside the home to try to keep the peace for frustrated neighborhood residents, but they're also involved in the new investigation.
The protests have grown in the wake of the disappearance of Caylee Anthony, who disappeared in June. Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, failed to report her disappearance for about a month, and she was jailed on charges of child neglect and lying to investigators.
She is currently out of jail on bond on those charges and others relating to check fraud.
"This thing has all the juicy, scandalous aspects that people eat up, and they just came out here probably out of poverty and curiosity," protester Christopher Benson said.
Benson added a different aspect to the protesting by covering himself in body paint.
After a fight between George Anthony and protesters on Thursday, Benson said he wanted to see what would happen next.
Some returning protesters said they're not sure what caused the violent outbreak.
"He pushed that girl first, and they grabbed a hold of him," protester Ashley Griffin said.
"I honestly think they deserved every bit of what they got."
"She needs to let everybody know where the baby is and quit wasting everybody's time," protester Carol Fedor said.
While Orange County sheriff's deputies patrolled the streets, the Guardian Angels arrived and stood back to back in front of the Anthony home.
"The people's rights out here are being violated. The Guardian Angels' purpose is to keep communities safe. That's it," a Guardian Angels representative said.
Some neighbors did confront one man, leading to a new criminal investigation.
"Some words were exchanged between people in the car and the neighbors. Subsequently, neighbors said a Taser was pulled out. It wasn't utilized, but it was activated. The car sped off," Lt. Larry Spahn said.
The Guardian Angels were able to follow the car and make contact with the occupants a few blocks away. Spahn said another confrontation took place, but no arrests were made.
The Guardian Angels wouldn't say how long they would stay at the Anthony home.

Bounty Hunter Questioned In Caylee Case
WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Orange County Sheriff's Office said that the commander of the missing person's unit and an FBI agent are in Sacramento, Calif., to meet Thursday night with bounty hunter Leonard Padilla as part of their ongoing investigation into the search for Caylee Anthony
Padilla told WESH 2 news that Casey Anthony, Caylee’s mother, gave him a very different version of what happened to Caylee, and believes investigators are talking with him to firm up their case against her.
The bounty hunter said Anthony told him that baby sitter Zenaida Gonzalez took Caylee from her at Blanchard Park in East Orange County and gave her a script of what to say to detectives.
But Anthony told investigators she left the child with Gonzalez at Sawgrass apartments.
Padilla said he predicts major charges against Anthony are likely on the way.
“She's lying. It's not a secret she lies all the time but this specifically is two separate stories, two different times about the same supposed incident.
It's probably neither one is the truth,” he said. “It's gone on long enough. She doesn't want to cooperate.
Her attorney doesn't want to cooperate, therefore it's time to go for the big one. You don't need a body for murder charges, they've got enough circumstantial, forensic evidence, they can convict her easily.”
Latest News 4 Sept 2008
The mother of missing Florida toddler Caylee Anthony managed to dodge a court appearance on new check fraud charges, a day after the startling news that "significant levels" of chloroform were allegedly found in her car.
Casey Anthony, 22, of Orlando, was re-arrested last weekend on the latest charges, which are unrelated to the investigation into her small daughter's whereabouts and stem from allegations that she used a friend's checks to pay for groceries and other items.
She was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning, but the arraignment was canceled, according to Allen Moore, a spokesman with the Orange County Corrections Department.
The reason?
An outside company called MacDonald Bail Bonds posted a percentage of her $3,000 bond without her knowledge, defense attorney Jose Baez told FOX affiliate WOFL-TV in Orlando.
Anthony has already been accused of lying to investigators and child neglect for allegedly failing to report then 2-year-old Caylee missing for more than a month. She has pleaded not guilty, but remains behind bars on $500,000 bond still in effect for those charges.
Orange County police said earlier this week that in light of recently completed FBI forensics tests, they now believe the child is dead.Related
There were few immediate details about the explosive alleged chloroform find, though sources told WOFL — which broke the news — that one of the computers taken from the Anthony home showed a search for information on the substance and how to use it.
Anthony's car has been a focus of the investigation; DNA taken from strands of hair and a stain found in the trunk were linked to little Caylee, according to the FBI and the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
Chloroform, a solvent, was used as an anesthetic in the past because inhaling the vapors depresses the central nervous system. It causes dizziness, fatigue and a loss of consciousness, and inhaling too much can be fatal.
Caylee's third birthday was Aug. 9. She vanished in mid-June; Anthony didn't report her missing until mid-July at her parents' insistence.
Leonard Padilla, the California bounty hunter who with his bail bondsman nephew posted and then withdrew Anthony's $500,000 bond, told WOFL that he is willing to get it reinstated — but only if the young mother tells detectives where Caylee's body is.
If she complies, he said, he and nephew Tony Padilla will repost the bond so that Anthony can await her trial out of jail, according to MyFOXOrlando.com. The offer was presented to the Anthony family and her attorney Jose Baez.
Padilla, who originally thought Caylee was alive, said he now believes she is dead.
Searchers haven't given up on finding the girl.
EquuSearch volunteers said Wednesday that they're more determined than ever. The 30 to 40 people combing the Orlando area are "not pulling out until they find this baby or exhaust every lead," search director Mandy Albritton told the Orlando Sentinel.
Caylee Marie Anthony is a missing 3 year old toddler from Orlando, FL. She is 3'1" (94 cm) tall and weights approx. 35 lbs (16 kg). Caylee has Hazel eyes, and brown hair.
Caylee was last seen with her mother Casey Anthony in Orlando, FL. Caylee was last seen wearing a pink shirt, jean shorts, backpack and white sneakers.
